The event closure was celebrated with a student disco

Kate Newns commented on a couple of outstanding performances by BIS students œOne of our students Sykiarh Frost is a super athlete; she won gold medals in the high jump as well as the 800 metres race and was part of the gold medal winning girl's 4x100m relay team. Motoko Setogawa, flew from Japan to Phuket to take pictures of the event for Japanese papers. Professor Dr. Everyone involved credited BIS with hosting a brilliant event with all students, parents and coaches departing with a smile on their faces. Well done to everyone involved and a very sincere and heartfelt thank you for a lovely four days in Phuket.Nicola Page, Head Coach from Shrewsbury International School, Bangkok, took some time out to share her experiences and her views on hosting the games next year. We are hosting the games next year and if we can replicate the success of this year's games and win a few extra medals too, and then I'm sure it will be another huge success.FOBISSEA is a group of British Schools who joined together to create opportunities for children of similar ages from all over the South and East Asia regions.Interest in the games came from as far away as Japan; BIS Phuket has a very strong relationship with Japan through its Japanese student's community. As a result, a well-known official FIFA photographer, Ms. Another of our students, Rosie Mcevoy scored a hat-trick in the girl's football competition and won gold in the ball throw. With well over 30 nationalities represented from eight teams, the hugely successful event took place from 2nd to 4th June and encompassed a host of sports over the three days.

Phuket, Thailand, 13th June 2011 “ Phuket's British International School (BIS) recently hosted the Primary FOBISSEA (Federation of British International Schools in South and East Asia) Games. I highly commend and sincerely thank every single person for going above and beyond the call of duty to make this another memorable event at BIS Phuket. Overall BIS students did exceptionally well securing eight individual and two relay team gold medals in swimming, twelve golds in track and field (eight individual and one team) and silver in T-Ball.

There were high spirits galore, no more so than by watchful excited parents; organisers were delighted with the success of the event which saw some phenomenal individual and team performances. George Hickman, BIS Headmaster was very pleased with the event and the collective effort made to ensure its success, œWhat an outstanding success it was. Not only did our students perform well in the games competitions, but, as usual, they were exemplars of conduct and behavior of which we can be justly proud. Visiting teams and BIS students participated in a friendly, competitive round of events in football, swimming, T Ball and track and field sports.

The event closure was celebrated with a student disco for the competing athletes and a gala barbecue dinner for the parents. Everything came together, in spite of the occasional raindrop on our heads, and this is another example of the kind of success that can be had when everybody works hard together.Parent Sophie Ward from the visiting Alice Smith School in Kuala Lumpur thoroughly enjoyed this year's FOBISSEA Games at BIS Phuket: œEverything magnetic latching relay was so incredibly well organised from accommodation to buses, to food and the running of the games themselves. This year's event saw eight schools represented from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. BIS Phuket also managed to secure three bronze medals in the football competition. - Ends -Editor's Note: For more information please e-mail British International School Marketing Manager Surang Thiplueporn at [email protected].Head of Physical Education and event organizer Ms. BIS parents have regularly been hosting fund raisers for the disaster that struck Japan in March, and from this a strong link to the country has developed. œTo see all the kids playing with big smiles on their faces is what these games are all about and makes the trip so worthwhile
